Suffer the children: It’s contemptible that Gauteng MECs for social development are not held to account

The brief

African Havens approached Appcentric for a public relations campaign ahead of its case in the High Court.

The campaign included traditional public relations activities including media interviews for the trustees of the African Havens and an impactful opinion editorial and letter to the media.

The goal was to raise awareness about the Department of Social Development’s gross negligence and incompetence in failing to register the African Haven’s cluster foster homes as fully compliant children’s homes. This is in spite two High Court decisions that instructed the Department of Social Development to register the African Haven’s homes expeditiously.

The media campaign created a strong awareness of the issues at hand and a groundswell of support for the African Havens with media stakeholders, the judiciary, business, and civil society stakeholders.
